During the exposure and experience sharing sessions at Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation, the team gained practical insights from the Corporation. The experience sharing concluded today Jan 22, 2026 , at the headquarters with the presence of the KDIC Chief Executive Officer.
In her concluding remarks, Hellen Chepkwony, CEO of KDIC, noted that although the team came to Kenya to learn about them, KDIC also learned about Ethiopia. “This wouldn’t be the last,” she said, and asked the Ethiopian Deposit Insurance Fund to join both the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) and the African Regional Deposit Insurance committee.
Being a member of both organizations would have great importance for the Fund in terms of documentation and knowledge sharing, Hellen said. EDIF Board member and team leader, Mr. Teshome Kebede, on his part, commended KDIC for sharing their experience with the team. He reaffirmed that the relationship will continue and that the issue of membership will be tabled for discussion with the Board of Directors.
During the stay at KDIC, the EDIF team learned and shared experiences on the overview of Deposit Insurance, Governance structure, Investment strategy for a Deposit Insurance Scheme, Risk management, Fund size and coverage, Premium collection and assessment, Crisis communication management, and the Reimbursement process, among others.
